Dermal fillers are one of the services offered at Glow Aesthetic Center, and the treatment can be a woman’s best friend. While results from dermal fillers can last a lot longer than, say, Botox injections, they tend to wear off over time. Typically, a treatment might last as long as two years before you need to schedule a new session. Compare that with the typical three-month timeline of Botox injections and you get a good idea of how much longer fillers can last.
That said, there are plenty of ways to increase the longevity of your dermal fillers so that you get even more bang for your buck. It all starts with selecting the right product, but your habits can also affect how long they last.
If you’re interested in getting plumper lips, a rejuvenated smile, or just smoothing out wrinkles and facial lines that are cramping your style, consider dermal fillers. Get in touch with us today by calling (818) 905-8815 or filling out the form on our website to schedule your consultation. At Glow Aesthetic Center, you’re in the perfect place for quality, long-lasting beauty treatments.
What Dermal Fillers Do
Before we get into how to make your fillers last longer, let’s discuss what fillers are and what they do. Dermal fillers are recognized officially by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS) as a method of reversing signs of aging. These are injectable gels that are made of different materials depending on the kind of filler you receive.
- Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic acid is produced in your body and is one of the key factors related to keeping your skin youthful and moisturized. It’s present mostly in your skin, but also occurs naturally in tissues, organs, skeletal structures, the umbilical cord, heart tissue, and more.
- Calcium Hydroxylapatite: Used for nearly two decades, calcium hydroxylapatite is a filler that is widely studied and has been approved for deep dermal and subdermal injections.
- Poly-L-lactic Acid: You may have heard this filler referred to by its trade name, Sculptra. It was originally used to treat thinning of facial fat material that is one side effect of HIV, but has since been approved for cosmetic usage as well.
At Glow Aesthetic Center, we use JUVÉDERM fillers for your cheeks, facial skin, lips, and the area surrounding your mouth. These are hyaluronic acid fillers, and they are safe, biodegradable, and sterile.

Making Your Fillers Last Longer
Now we get to the nitty-gritty: how to make your fillers last longer. Of course, regular appointments and touch-ups are one of the best ways to extend the life of your fillers. However, your daily activities can greatly affect how long they last. Keep these tips in mind to truly get the most out of your dermal filler experience.
Limit UV Exposure
Ultraviolet light from the sun is incredibly harmful to your skin. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), too much exposure to UV rays can result in premature aging (read: wrinkles, lines, and age spots), skin cancer, and other hazards. Stay inside during peak sun hours, and if you must go out, make sure to wear a protective hat and slather on the sunscreen.
Lower Your Stress
We know, we know. It’s easier said than done. But stress is a key element of aging, wrinkles, facial lines, and skin damage. Try to avoid stressful situations and take plenty of “me time” to relax, de-stress, and enjoy yourself. Not only does your health depend on it, but stress can reduce your time between dermal filler treatments.
Moisturize Your Skin
Like anything else in life, regular maintenance is the best way to increase the longevity and youthfulness of your skin (and your dermal fillers). Use a consistent routine of moisturizing and taking care of your skin to extend the life of your fillers. Your face deserves to be pampered!
Why Fillers Don’t Last Forever
Unfortunately, there is no non-surgical procedure that will have permanent wrinkle reduction or lip-plumping effects. Much of the reason that even the best fillers, with the best maintenance routines, will need to be reworked and refilled has to do with our own bodies.
See, your body metabolized hyaluronic acid. That means, over time, your body basically “eats away” the dermal fillers that give your skin that luminous, youthful exuberance. Various factors can affect the exact timeframe by which you’ll need to get a new treatment, but the hyaluronic acid fillers we use at Glow Aesthetic Center typically last anywhere from six to 18 months. While they are the most “natural,” and therefore the safest, they are also the most temporary due to the body’s tendency to metabolize them.
What About Botox ?
Another option is to get Botox injections. These injections make use of the botulinum toxin, which is produced by the same microbe that causes a form of food poisoning called botulism. But not to worry! The procedure is safe, and this toxin is used because it effectively paralyzes muscles and prevents contraction, leading to fewer wrinkles and a smoother, younger-looking face.
However, Botox treatments are even more impermanent options. Much of the time, you’ll need to come back for further treatments about every three months. Plus, fillers work differently, by plumping up facial features for a youthful look rather than merely smoothing out lines and wrinkles.
