Do Fat Dissolving Injections Work?

Many people struggle with submental fullness, a double chin, caused by genetics, age, or weight gain.

While there are several ways to reduce submental fullness, including diet and exercise or cosmetic surgery, these methods may not always work for everyone. However, a safe, effective, and non-invasive way to treat a double chin is now with Kybella injections.

This blog post will explore how Kybella treatment works, who is a good candidate for the procedure, and what to expect during and after the treatment.

What Is Kybella Treatment?

Kybella is the first and only injectable treatment approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to break down fat molecules permanently.

The treatment uses a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring salt found in human bile, which helps to rupture and destroy fat cells. Once destroyed, the cell contents are removed by your immune cells.

Kybella Advantages

The Kybella chin treatment is a non-surgical outpatient procedure that does not require anesthesia.

There are several advantages to Kybella treatment, including:

  • Jawline contouring
  • Stubborn chin fat reduction without injury to surrounding tissues
  • The potential for injection into other areas containing fatty pockets, including your stomach region, thighs, and more
  • Permanent results if you maintain your weight
  • A price tag lower than cosmetic surgery
  • No scars, incisions, or downtime
  • Minimal side effects that disappear shortly after the procedure
  • Gradual results

Kybella Treatment: What to Expect

During your consultation at Glow Aesthetic Center, your board-certified practitioner will test the fat in your neck to determine if it is submental. This is important because Kybella may not work as well on fat that isn’t submental.

At your Kybella treatment session, your practitioner will transfer a grid of dots onto your neck area over your double chin. This grid provides a sitemap for your Kybella chin treatment. Then your board-certified practitioner will use a small needle to inject Kybella into the fatty tissue in tiny amounts following the grid pattern.

You may experience minor discomfort, but the treatment sessions are quick, about 15 to 20 minutes each. No downtime is necessary because Kybella is such an exact treatment. It pinpoints only the fat cells in the double chin area and avoids surrounding tissues.

How Many Injections and Treatment Sessions Will I Need?

The total number of injections and Kybella treatment sessions you’ll require will depend on the amount of fat that needs to be dissolved. Typically, patients require about one to three sessions spaced about six weeks apart.

You’ll start to notice results about three weeks after your initial treatment. As soon as you reach the desired results, your sessions end and won’t need to be repeated.

How Long Does a Kybella Treatment Last?

Kybella is a long-term treatment that destroys fat cells under your chin so they can no longer store excess fat. Results usually last for several years and could be permanent in some cases.

Because your body generally only creates new fat cells to replace those that die naturally, it will not replace the cells destroyed by the deoxycholic acid as long as your weight remains stable.

However, your body will create new fat cells in your submental region if you gain substantial weight after your treatments. These new cells would effectively take the place of those you lost during Kybella, causing your double chin to return.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Kybella Treatment?

Kybella can dramatically reduce a person’s double chin in most situations; however, it may not suit everyone.

During your initial consultation, one of our board-certified practitioners will help you explore your treatment options and decide if Kybella is best for you.

You may want to consider Kybella if you:

  • Are embarrassed or troubled by your submental fullness.
  • Appear heavier or older than you are because of a double chin.
  • Want to avoid surgery or scars.
  • Suffer from a persistent double chin despite eating a healthy diet and regularly exercising.

Kybella chin treatment may not be recommended if you:

  • Have a double chin due to excess or saggy skin rather than excess fat.
  • Are under 18 years old.
  • Are currently pregnant or nursing.
  • Have had previous surgeries in the area, including a facelift or liposuction.

It is important to note that while Kybella treatment is effective, it is not a weight loss solution. It targets and eliminates submental fullness caused by excess fat that cannot be reduced through diet and exercise.

If you are interested in Kybella treatment, consult a qualified healthcare professional. They can help determine if you are a good candidate for the treatment and provide you with more information about the procedure.

Dissolve Your Unwanted Fat

Kybella treatment is a safe and effective solution for those looking to get rid of their double chin and achieve a more streamlined jawline.

The FDA approves this non-surgical outpatient procedure which involves injecting a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid to break down fat cells. With minimal side effects, no downtime, and permanent results, Kybella is an excellent alternative to traditional cosmetic surgery.

If you are interested in Kybella treatment and are located in the Encino, CA area, contact Glow Aesthetic Center today to schedule a free consultation with one of our board-certified practitioners. We will assess your submental fullness and determine if Kybella is your best option.
