When you get a microneedling treatment from Glow Aesthetic Center, you might see healthier skin immediately. However, truly long-lasting results tend to require our four-to-six session packages. For clients with deep wrinkles, set-in age lines, and more visible acne or keloid scars, results may take several weeks. This is because microneedling works by triggering your body’s natural production of structural proteins like collagen and elastin.
A microneedling treatment involves perforating the top layers of your skin in order to cause your skin to heal itself. By making small holes that are invisible to the naked eye, we tell your skin that it needs to do damage control. Thus, it produces the important proteins and compounds that smooth wrinkles and undo acne damage. This, like any bodily healing function, takes some time.

Microneedling: Safe and Effective
At one point, microneedling was sneered at by mainstream physicians. Now, however, the practice is considered safe, effective, and useful for people who suffer from:
- Severe acne scars
- Keloids
- Uneven skin tones
- Uneven skin textures
- Fine lines (such as “laugh lines”)
- Wrinkles
Harvard Health medical editor Dr. Kenneth Arndt describes the procedure as “very safe.” In fact, few reports of adverse effects have been filed in the history of microneedling. Less expensive than other treatments for similar issues (such as laser surgery), microneedling is a safe alternative that can produce astounding results. Within as little as six weeks, studies show that both the clients themselves and outsiders view the clients’ skin as being 45% to 55% improved.

Why Stimulating Collagen Through Microneedling Works
Collagen is the most common protein within your body. The most abundant, Type 1, is found in your skin. However, other types of the protein can be found in:
- Bone marrow
- Hair
- Cell surfaces
- Cartilage
- Lymph nodes
- Other soft and connective tissues
You can think of collagen as the “glue” that holds your body together. In fact, the word derives from the Greek word kolla, which translates to mean “glue.” Sounds pretty important, right? It is! Collagen is a key factor in creating healthy permeable membranes like your skin and keeping them well-structured.
If you have a cut, for example, collagen helps bind that wound back together and trigger the production of new skin cells. Microneedling capitalizes on this trait in the following way.
- During your microneedling session, our staff will use the Rejuvapen system to poke microscopic holes in the top layers of your skin.
- Your body recognizes this damage and triggers the production of additional glue-like collagen proteins.
- These proteins repair the damage, creating smoother, more vibrant and young-looking skin in the process!
Additionally, the process results in an increased production of elastin, which (as you might guess from its name) gives your skin its elastic stretchability.
When You Can Expect Results
After your first microneedling session, you’ll likely experience a faint pinkish tinge to your skin, much like a sunburn. This is due to the abundance of tiny pinpricks, but it’s nothing to feel concerned about. Many clients also report an immediate improvement in their skin tone consistency as well. However, the true results take some time to manifest, as they depend on your own body’s production of collagen and elastin.
At Glow Aesthetic Center, we schedule clients for anywhere from four to six microneedling sessions at a time. It will likely take around four to six weeks for you to start seeing the truly noticeable difference that you desire. Remember: it took your skin a long time to develop wrinkles, age lines, and scar tissue; it will take a little while to correct those issues.
Taking Care of Your Skin
In the days and weeks after your microneedling treatment, it’s important to engage in good habits that can help boost your results. For starters, wear sunscreen. This is a constant refrain you’ll hear from any cosmetic or aesthetic clinic, since ultraviolet radiation from the sun is one of the chief nemeses of healthy skin.
You’ll also want to avoid topical medications and creams for at least a few days after your treatment. That’s because of the little holes in your skin that microneedling creates, which makes the absorption of elements easier for your skin. This is a good thing. However, you want to avoid using anything that could be toxic or harmful in larger amounts, as your skin will absorb anything you put on it while in this state.
It’s important to hydrate as well, drinking plenty of water throughout the day. This can help moisturize your skin and keep it healthy as it heals from the microneedling process. Do not use ice or blood-thinning painkillers to numb your face. These can counteract the inflammation process that is part of what triggers your skin to produce more collagen.
