Aging is one of the few realities that everyone must face, yet not everyone must face all of the symptoms. As people seek a solution to escape the symptoms of aging, cosmetic anti-aging procedures have become extremely popular. While Botox is the go-to name for most, another option you may not have considered or even known about is Dysport. Here’s everything you need to know.

What is Dysport?

Like Botox, Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is an anti-aging treatment designed to slow the appearance of wrinkles. It uses a form of botulinum toxin (similar to Botox), which is injected under the skin and is targeted to the desired muscles. The procedure is non-invasive and designed to target the lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), the forehead lines (frontalis) and the wrinkles on the side of the eyes (crows feet).

How Does Dysport Work?

Dysport works by limiting the immediate movement of the muscles around the proximity of the injection area. This movement is the primary reason for wrinkles as the repetitive movement of the muscles forms and then deepens these wrinkles. The injection relaxes the muscles to achieve this effect and as the muscles relax, the skin above them begins to smooth over, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Who makes Dysport?

Dysport is developed by Swiss Dermatological care firm Galderma. It was originally developed in the 1990’s as the European counterpart to the American Botox, but has since been approved for American use by the FDA in 2009. Now, it is considered a staple part of the neuromodulators lineup, alongside Botox.

The Dysport Procedure

The actual procedure to apply Dysport is quick and non-invasive. It only takes a few minutes and involves your doctor injecting the Dysport, directly into the target muscles in at least five different spots. It’s largely painless and requires little to no recovery time. It is performed in your doctor’s office and is comparable in cost to Botox.

Outlook

Dysport is incredibly effective and results can make themselves clear within minutes, however, it is not a long term solution, meaning that it will need to be reapplied. The results typically last three to four months and so you will need to go to follow up sessions if you want the effect to last.

Side effects of Dysport

Side effects of Dysport are considered to be relatively minor as the procedure is very safe. They include:

  • Minimal pain at the site of injection
  • Minimal rash and irritation
  • Headaches

Additionally, there are some candidates that should not be considered for Dysport. It is not recommended for pregnant women, children under the age of 2 (and is only intended for adults when done for wrinkles) and anyone with an allergy to milk or other botulinum toxin products.

Summary

Dysport is an incredibly safe and effective option for anyone looking to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It is safe, easy, and readily available across America. If you’re looking for the best Dysport treatment in Encino, CA, or Los Angeles county, then you can’t do any better than Glow Aesthetic Center.
