Top Places to Visit in Encino, CA

Concrete drainage channel with graffiti art and a bridge overhead, set against a clear blue sky and mountainous backdrop.

The city of Encino, CA is a wonderful place to visit or live, thanks to the gorgeous weather, family-friendly atmosphere, and variety of fun recreational activities.

Whether you prefer to visit sites that showcase the city’s natural beauty or want to experience the area’s cultural and historical offerings, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Check out some of the top attractions to visit during your time in Encino.

Los Encinos State Historic Park

Los Encinos State Historic Park preserves the Ranchos Los Encinos buildings. These buildings were constructed in the 1800s; they were acquired by California in 1949. The del la Ossa Dobe, Garnier building, a natural spring, and a pond are all part of the Ranchos Los Encinos.

You can tour the property or try out historic activities, like making butter or re-enacting the arrival of a stagecoach. Ducks, geese, and pigeons call the park home, making it an ideal spot for anyone who wants to observe wildlife.

Visitors love the park’s tranquil, quiet atmosphere. There are also picnic tables if you want to bring lunch on your outing.

Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area

The Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area includes numerous parks and facilities that are situated close to the Sepulveda Dam. This dam was completed in 1941 to help control winter flooding caused by the Los Angeles River.

Some 2,000 acres include a wildlife reserve where visitors can birdwatch, fish, kayak, and walk. Great Blue Heron, snowy egrets, osprey, and ducks are all frequently observed.

The park serves as a peaceful retreat from some of the city’s more boisterous activities. Picnic tables, a lighted baseball field, and a lighted soccer field are also available for use.

In the mood for boating? Two boat launch access points are available at the North and South Boundaries.

Encino Reservoir

The Encino Reservoir is an extensive manmade body of water that holds 3 billion gallons. Though it has served as a water supply for local residents, modern laws and regulations make it hard for Encino Reservoir to continue serving as a source of drinking water thanks to the high likelihood of contamination.

Even though Encino Reservoir’s days as a reliable source of drinking water are numbered, it’s still a terrific spot to watch the sunset or spend the day in nature. Multiple trails around the reservoir are ideal for walking, hiking, and nature watching.

The Mulholland Drive trail is a popular 7.7-mile trail that offers views of the Encino Reservoir, LA, the ocean, and mountains, along with an overlook of the Nike Missile Site, a remnant of the Cold War that served as a potential last line of defense against Soviet bombers.

Hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and dog walking are all permitted on the Mullholland Drive trail.

Or, bring your fishing gearing and see what you can catch. Largemouth bass, carp, and rainbow trout are a few of the species that anglers enjoy catching out of the reservoir.

Balboa Sports Center

In the mood for a little friendly competition? Balboa Sports Center is a recreation area that offers an assortment of sports and recreational activities.

Some of the onsite facilities include baseball fields, volleyball courts, tennis courts, golf courses, basketball courts, and soccer fields. There’s also an area to walk or ride your bike, and there are gated playgrounds available for small and older children. Parking, restrooms, shade, and picnic tables are readily available.

While many of the sports facilities require a permit to use, sports enthusiasts love to catch a community league game.

Balboa Lake

Balboa Lake is located across the stress from the Balboa Sports Center and offers a host of amenities that guarantee a pleasant day. There’s a children’s play area, along with biking and walking paths. Fishing is allowed, and many recreational activities are permitted on the lake.

Visitors to Balboa lake appreciate the gorgeous landscaping, including the zen-inducing Japanese gardens and mature trees.

If you don’t have your gear with you, Balboa Lake offers some items for rent, including bikes and pedal boats.

The Getty Centre Museum

The Getty Centre Museum is a family-friendly outing with several permanent and revolving exhibits. Younger kids will love visiting the Family Room, where they can learn about art through touch.

Art Detective cards provide kids a thrilling opportunity to explore the museum for clues and answers to help them solve the museum’s mysteries; this activity alone offers hours of fun.

Check out the pathway that runs through the Central Garden to learn about plants and engage in other activities suitable for all ages. You can also visit high areas of the grounds for breathtaking views.

Aside from a parking fee, The Getty Centre Museum is free to visit.

The Page Museum La Brea Tar Pits

The tar pits of the Page Museum La Brea Tar Pits are where some of the world’s most famous fossils were discovered, including specimens from the Ice Age. Excavation is still happening and paleontologists are continuing to find new fossils.

You’re allowed to watch the active excavations in process while learning about some of the Ice Age’s most famous creatures. There are also skeletons and replicas on display.

The Page Museum offers numerous Ice-Aged themed displays and programs, along with revolving exhibits for visitors to enjoy.

While the tar pits are free to visit, there is a fee to visit the Page Museum. Or, if you want to opt for lot parking, plan on paying a small parking fee.

I had a consultation with Tia in the Encino office about fillers and Xeomin. She's awesome -- patient, takes time to explain the procedures in great detail and even drew out a plan. She wasn't pushing services and suggested doing the upper and lower face at different times to spread out the cost over time.

Trying botox for my 11s. They were very thorough for my initial evaluation and described a number of treatments in addition to neurotoxins which could be helpful, but absolutely did not pressure me into getting any of them. The process was quick and easy.

I’ve had fillers, laser treatment, and injectables done at Glow and have been very happy with my experience and results. The front desk staff is super nice and professional. My NP Elnaz is excellent about talking me through procedures. They make sure to provide you with the cost of everything clearly and scheduling and confirming has been very easy.
