What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

No one wants to deal with aging but unfortunately, it’s a part of life that will affect us whether we like it or not. However, with the advancements in modern medical science, there are now options to reverse the appearance of wrinkles and aging skin. Two of the most popular options on the market today are Botox and Dysport. Here’s what you need to know about each.

What Is Botox And Dysport?

Both Botox and Dysport are types of botulinum neurotoxin injections. They are used to treat muscle spasms and prescribed for such reasons by your doctors. However, they’re more commonly associated with wrinkle removal and rejuvenating skin. Many older people get Botox and Dysport when they want to look and feel younger again.

What Are They For

As we’ve mentioned, the official medical reason to get Botox or Dysport is to care for specific health conditions. Any health conditions that might lead to spasming muscles is a great way to treat your problems and hopefully minimize the pain over time. However, it’s more common to see Botox and Dysport used by people seeking a youthful look in their skin (most notably their faces).

What Is The Difference

The main difference between the two comes from the potency of trace proteins. Each one is more effective to specific people for this very reason.

  • Dysport is only approved to treat wrinkles between the eyebrows (the area known as the glabella).
  • Botox is most commonly used to treat forehead wrinkles but is also approved to treat the wrinkles between the eyebrows.
  • Dysport is mainly reserved for people who have moderate to severe cases of glabella wrinkles (a dermatologist can help you to tell the difference)
  • Botox is designed for anyone with varying needs for uplifts and wrinkle management. However, more serious cases are given to Dysport.

As you can see from these main differences, Botox is the more common solution for typical wrinkle problems. Most people opt for Botox to sort out all of the issues around their face wrinkles without much worry. Dysport is more specialist and designed to help people with serious problems related to their glabella wrinkles.

Generally, a dermatologist or doctor will prescribe Dysport treatment if you need it. However, Botox is available to all that ask for it, and the procedure is carried out inside the doctor’s office.

Who Is Suited To Each?

Dysport is considered the more direct solution of the two. A doctor may prescribe Dysport to you if your muscle spasms in your glabella are getting out of hand. If you need an extra push to realign the wrinkles in your face if they reach a severe point, then Dysport is also better suited for you.

Botox is available to anyone who needs it. It isn’t often prescribed for the same reasons and is mainly used to treat mild problems (and sometimes no problems). You’ll find that Botox is the most popular choice of the two.

Summary

Hopefully, that’s cleared up any confusion you might have had between the two. Now you know whether you need Botox or Dysport, it’s time to discuss the issue further with your doctor to seek the help you need!
