Microneedling is a common procedure designed to help your skin create vibrant, healthy new layers. It’s often used for acne scars, stretch marks, fine lines, wrinkles, and other skin issues that you may desire to get rid of. At Glow Aesthetic Center, we use the Rejuvapen system to provide our clients with the glowing skin they desire. If you are planning on signing up for a microneedling session, there are several steps you should take to improve your results. The best results stem from taking good care of your skin before and after your treatment, including the use of sunscreen and daily cleaning regimens.
Glow Aesthetic Center has helped many clients just like you get the look they desire through microneedling treatments. Our medical staff, led by Dr. Homan Siman, is ready to consult with you on the services we provide, your cosmetic goals, and how we can help you achieve your aesthetic dreams.

What Microneedling Is
Microneedling uses a series of miniscule needles to poke tiny holes in the top layers of your skin. That might sound a bit scary, but keep in mind that these holes are too small to be seen by the human eye. The concept behind microneedling is relatively simple. By poking these tiny holes into your skin, the process does a bit of damage, but your body then responds by creating important proteins like collagen and elastin.
In this way, your skin’s natural healing processes are triggered and you grow newer, healthier layers. This can help smooth out wrinkles and age lines, lighten acne scars, and more—all by using a tiny needle pen!

Steps to Take to Achieve the Best Results
You can engage in a variety of activities (or abstain from certain activities) to boost your chances of getting the best possible results. When you consult with the team at Glow Aesthetic Center, we will go over some of the steps you should take both prior to and following your microneedling treatment.
What to Put On Your Skin
Many of us have daily facial cleansing, moisturizing, exfoliation, and make-up routines. However, not all of these are good for your skin before a microneedling session. Avoid using topical medications and creams for about a week prior to your treatment appointment, and don’t exfoliate the night before. That said, it’s fine to apply items like daily cleansers and sunscreen.
In fact, you should be using sunscreen every day to promote healthy skin and protect yourself from the harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun.
What Medications to Avoid
Avoid using any medications that contain anti-inflammatory elements like NSAIDs. For example, ibuprofen, Advil, aspirin, and other pain relievers combat and interfere with your body’s inflammatory response. However, this response is crucial to the microneedling process, as it’s what tells your skin to start rebuilding itself.
Cut out anti-inflammatory medications for about three days before your microneedling treatment (and seven days afterward) to ensure that these compounds won’t disrupt the process.
How to Combat Pain or Discomfort
Microneedling is safe and effective, but some clients can experience minor pain or discomfort in the day or so following their session. While you should avoid anti-inflammatory medications, you can take painkillers that are based on the active ingredient acetaminophen (for example, Tylenol). It’s also best not to use ice to reduce swelling or pain. In order for the treatment to work, you’ll need your skin to inflame and trigger the rebuilding process.
Your Downtime
Glow Aesthetic Center offers a microneedling treatment plan of four to six sessions, depending on your needs. It’s not uncommon for your skin to already exhibit a healthier look and feel immediately after treatment. Though true results can take a few weeks to show, with some clients needing anywhere from three to six months to see their best results. It all depends on your skin’s natural properties and your lifestyle, in addition to other factors that may be out of your control.
The good news is that there is little to no downtime after a microneedling treatment. Your skin may have a reddish tinge to it for a day or two following your session, similar to a slight sunburn. Other than that and some slight discomfort, you should be good to go!
Clients with deeper wrinkles or acne scars may notice it takes longer to see the results they crave. But they are overwhelmingly satisfied in the end with how their skin looks after completing their microneedling regimen.
